Bryan Downs is a founding partner at Wilson, Morton & Downs. He is an experienced civil litigator with particular expertise in cases involving complex business disputes and local government law. Bryan has substantial experience in the area of business litigation, has defended products liability and other cases involving personal injury, and has served as coordinating and monitoring counsel in cases pending in state and federal courts across the country. He also has substantial experience litigating cases involving issues of local government law, including zoning, land use, constitutional torts, government liability, interpretation and enforcement of local ordinances and taxation.

Since 2000, Bryan has had the privilege of serving as City Attorney for the City of Decatur, Georgia, which is recognized state-wide and nationally for excellence in local government. As city attorney, he provides legal representation and counsel on a wide variety of issues.

Professional memberships include the State Bar of Georgia – Local Government Law Section (past  President), DeKalb Bar Association (past member of the board of directors), Atlanta Bar Association, Georgia Municipal Association (past President of the City Attorneys’ Section), and the Defense Research Institute. Bryan holds an AV rating – the highest possible – in the gold standard Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings for his legal skills and ethical standards. He also has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of business litigation.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan to Presbyterian missionary parents, Bryan grew up in DeKalb County, Georgia. He attended Presbyterian College followed by the University of Georgia, earning a B.A. in political science. He obtained his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Bryan lives in the City of Decatur with his wife of over 30 years. He is a member of the Decatur Rotary Club where he served as President. He is a member and Elder of Decatur Presbyterian Church, has served as a parent leader in the Boy Scouts, and previously served on the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA Board of Directors. In his personal time, Bryan enjoys the outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, canoeing and travel are all favorite activities, especially when they include his family.
